ALICE COOPER

Alice Cooper, nome artístico de Vincent Damon Furnier (Detroit, 4 de fevereiro de 1948), é um cantor e compositor de Rock. Ele é mais conhecido por suas apresentações ao vivo, freqüentemente teatrais e violentas, cheias de maquiagem, cadeiras elétricas, forcas, guilhotinas, cabeças decapitadas artificias e sangue falso. O humor, freqüentemente, faz parte de seus trabalhos e entrevistas.

Nascido na cidade de Detroit, em 1948, Vincent Furnier formou suas primeiras bandas na década de 60. Apesar de terem sido muitas, apenas a Nazz obteve alguma repercussão, chegando a realizar algumas gravações.

Finalmente, em 1969, montou o Alice Cooper junto com Mike Bruce e Glen Buxton (guitarras), Dennis Dunaway (baixo) e Neil Smith (bateria). O primeiro álbum "Pretties For You" foi lançado, porém, não muito bem sucedido.

A carreira do grupo começou a decolar quando o produtor Bob Ezrin aconselhou o vocalista a fazer, além de cantar, performances diabólicas nas apresentações, abusando dos efeitos de horror, cobras, sangue e cenas teatrais. Com o disco "Easy Action", de 1970, chamaram a atenção da mídia e das gravadoras, conseguindo um contrato com a Warner Brothers.

O sucesso definitivo chegou com os clássicos "Love It to Death" (1971) e "School's Out" (1972), seguidos por "Billion Dollar Babies" (1973), quando atingiram o topo das paradas de todo o mundo. Ao mesmo tempo em que conheciam a fama, os integrantes da banda se viam numa difícil situação: o abuso de drogas e álcool por parte de Vincent estava cada vez mais freqüente. Decidem, portanto, seguir com a banda sem ele, mudando o nome do grupo para Billion Dollar Babies, mas acabaram não se mantendo no cenário musical.

Vincent então adota o nome Alice Cooper, anteriormente da banda, para si próprio, e passa a seguir em carreira solo. Gravou "Welcome to My Nightmare", em 1975. Esse disco foi muito bem recebido e o Hard Rock praticado pelo vocalista somado ao espetáculo teatral em que haviam se transformado suas apresentações faziam cada vez mais sucesso.

Mas nem todos os álbuns foram tão bem assim. Não por falta de criatividade ou de capacidade de Alice, e sim por causa do vício que prejudicava a sua vida e consequentemente o seu trabalho.

Apesar de ter se internado em algumas clínicas de recuperação, sua fama era mantida pelos shows, sempre lotados, já que os álbuns continuavam fracos e sem o mesmo pique do início. Somente em 1989, com "Trash", e em 1991, com "Hey Stoopid", é que Alice voltou a figurar nas paradas e a fazer algum sucesso com material inédito, emplacando alguns hits nas rádios e na MTV.

Em 2000, o álbum "Brutal Planet", um dos mais pesados de toda a sua carreira, também foi muito bem recebido, sendo seguido por uma extensa turnê com praticamente todos os shows lotados.

No ano seguinte, veio "Dragontown", uma espécie de continuação do álbum anterior, com letras sarcásticas e o som mais arrastado. Um pouco mais devagar, é verdade, mas sem nunca deixar de soar pesado, como só Alice Cooper sabe fazer. A bateria mais uma vez ficou por conta do competente Eric Singer, consagrado por ter tocado em diversas bandas, principalmente no Kiss.

Em 2003, o cantor estava de volta com seu mais recente trabalho, o disco “The Eyes of Alice Cooper”, reunindo 13 faixas e letras sarcásticas.

De volta aos estúdios em 2005, Alice Cooper lançou em agosto o álbum "Dirty Diamonds", pela New West Records. Um ano depois o cantor estava de volta às prateleiras com o material ao vivo "Alice Cooper Box – Collector’s Edition", reunindo registros ao vivo das turnês "Welcome to My Nightmare" de 1970 e "Brutally Live" de 2000.
