BLACK SABBATH
A banda britânica foi formada no final da década de 60, na cidade de Birmingham. A formação inicial era composta por Ozzy Osbourne no vocal, Tony Iommi comandando a guitarra, Geezer Butler no baixo e Bill Ward na bateria.
O Black Sabbath trouxe um som inovador para a época dominada pelo pop, e influenciou a geração seguinte da música. Com o som pesado de guitarras, letras com teor místico e sobrenatural, além das roupas quase sempre negras usadas pelos integrantes, marcaram aquela que é considerada a lenda viva do heavy metal.
O grupo se conheceu na escola e na vizinhança em que moravam. Logo que começaram a tocar, a princípio blues e rock, a banda já dominou os principais bares da cidade e arrebanharam muitos fãs, que foram imprescindíveis para o sucesso rápido obtido pelo Black Sabbath.
Inicialmente o grupo se chamou Polka Tulk, depois Earth e finalmente o nome atual, que foi escolhido para dar a idéia de escuridão e misticismo, características sempre presentes nas composições da banda.
O primeiro disco, homônimo, foi gravado em 1969 e lançado um ano depois. Mas o sucesso realmente chegou até a banda com o segundo álbum, “Paranoid”, considerado um clássico do Sabbath. Algumas das músicas de destaque são “War Pigs”, “Iron Man” “Fairies Wear Boots” e a faixa-título. O álbum proporcionou o primeiro Disco de Platina ao grupo e foi o mais vendido no Reino Unido.
Esta formação permaneceu igual até o disco “Technical Ecstasy”, de 1976, quando Osbourne deixa o grupo e dá lugar a Dave Walker. Dois anos depois, Ozzy retorna à formação do Black Sabbath, porém deixa a banda novamente em 1979.
Desta vez, quem substituiu o lendário Ozzy é Ronnie James Dio. Com ele, a banda gravou dois álbuns “Heaven and Hell”, duas vezes Disco de Platina no Reino Unido, e “Mob Rules”, com destaque para os singles “The Mob Rules”, “Turn Up The Night” e “Voodoo”.
Para o próximo disco, lançado em 1983 e intitulado “Born Again”, o grupo conta com o vocal de Ian Gillan, ex-Deep Purple, e com Bev Bevan na bateria, que logo sairiam para dar lugar, respectivamente, a David Donato e para o retorno de Bill Ward.
Após muitas mudanças na formação da banda, em 1992, o Black Sabbath lança um novo álbum que se tornara um clássico da carreira, seu nome era “Dehumanizer”. Neste disco, a formação foi Ronnie James Dio no vocal, Tony Iommi na guitarra, Geezer Butler no baixo e Vinny Appice na bateria.
No ano de 1998, novamente com a formação original, a banda grava um disco ao vivo que marca a volta do quarteto.
